EasyScience
EasyScience is a four-page supplement of MiniMag, a very popular science magazine for the youth.

National Schools Debates
SAASTA National Schools Debates is a project using school debates as a knowledge transfer tool to introduce scientific concepts and findings to the school environment.

Media round tables
A media round table is an interactive form of media briefing, involving a cross-section of stakeholders to enable all perspectives or viewpoints to be expressed and discussed on an equal footing. The aim of a media round table is to improve the understanding of science and related issues by the media and their readers.

Department of Science and Technology Focus Areas
The Department of Science and Technology partners with SAASTA to fulfill this mandate. SAASTA is the implementing agency for numerous DST initiatives such as the focus area awareness programmes in Astronomy, Biosciences, Antarctica and African Origins.

  • Hydrogen South Africa Public Awareness (HySA)
    The Department of Science and Technology has appointed SAASTA to implement an HFCT public awareness, demonstration and education platform and develop information channels to keep the public informed about hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
  • Nanotechnology Public Engagement Programme (NPEP)
    NPEP, managed by SAASTA on behalf of the Department of Science and Technology, aims to market, communicate and disseminate scientific information on nanotechnology in order to have a more engaged and informed South African society on this emerging science.
  • Public Understanding of Biotechnology (PUB)
    A programme on the Public Understanding of Biotechnology (PUB) was launched by the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) in early 2003. SAASTA, a business unit of the National Research Foundation (NRF) was elected as the implementing agency for PUB by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), who is funding this three year initiative.
